Patricia Fulmer, O.D.
Dr. Patricia Fulmer specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of complex eye diseases, with emphasis in glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. Her clinical experience also includes pre- and post-operative management of an assortment of surgical procedures, including cataract surgery.
Dr. Fulmer attended the University of Alabama where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Art History. While there, she completed the University Honors Program, International Honors Program, and Blount Undergraduate Initiative and studied abroad in both England and Italy. Dr. Fulmer then went on to earn her Doctorate of Optometry Degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry, receiving academic honors and earning the Leadership Award and Award of Excellence upon graduation. She was active in the direction of many organizations, including the Beta Sigma Kappa and Gold Key honor societies, and founded the school’s student chapter of the American Academy of Optometry.
After UABSO, Dr. Fulmer moved to Amarillo, Texas, to complete a residency in Ocular Disease and Primary Care at the Thomas E. Creek VA Medical Center. She feels fortunate to have provided well-deserved care for veterans who served in every branch of our country’s military, including veterans who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and World War II. This experience furthered her clinical skills and knowledge in hospital-based care and management of various eye diseases, as well as gave her a chance to give back to those who have given so much. While at the VA, Dr. Fulmer was also an instructor for interns and presented educational seminars for veterans. She is currently a member of the American Optometric Association and the American Academy of Optometry.
Born and raised in Alabama, Dr. Fulmer loves to watch the Crimson Tide roll on game days. She also enjoys traveling, music, and spending time with friends and family, especially at the beach.
