Sachie H. Craig, O.D.
Originally from Tokyo, Japan, Dr. Sachie H. Craig grew up in Snellville, Georgia. After graduating cum laude with honors from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, she worked as an assistant in cardiovascular and renal research at the Medical College of Georgia. Dr. Craig received her Doctorate of Optometry degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, again graduating cum laude. While in optometry school, she was a recipient of the school’s Merit Scholarship and she was recognized as a “Top 5 Student” by her professors following optometric training in the clinical evaluation of the visual system. Dr. Craig was actively involved in various organizations, taking on leadership positions in the National Optometric Student Association, Student Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity, and the American Optometric Student Association. She also volunteered with the Remote Area Medical program and traveled to Honduras to provide eye care to underserved patients.
After completing externships in Chicago, Athens, Birmingham and Tuscaloosa, Dr. Craig extended her clinical experience by completing a highly regarded residency with Woolfson Eye Institute in Atlanta. During her time at Woolfson, she was presented with a travel grant by the American Academy of Optometry’s Cornea, Contact Lenses, and Refractive Technologies section.
Dr. Craig currently resides in Nashville, TN, and is an active member of the Tennessee Association of Optometric Physicians, the American Optometric Association, and the Middle Tennessee Optometric Physicians Society. Her hobbies include traveling, photography, playing sports, and spending time with family and friends. She is fluent in both English and Japanese.
Jessica Jarvis, O.D.
Jessica Jarvis, O.D. graduated from the University of Louisville prior to earning a Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry. Following graduation, Dr. Jarvis completed a 13-month post-doctoral residency program specializing in ocular disease management at the Cincinnati Eye Institute in affiliation with The Ohio State University College of Optometry. Here she received extensive training in the management of ocular disease, including specialized training in cornea and anterior segment, vitreoretinal disorders, neuro-ophthalmology, glaucoma, and uveitis.
Dr. Jarvis joined Eye Health Partners of Middle TN, Inc. (EHP) in mid-2017 as a consultative optometrist at our EHP clinic locations. Her duties include medical and minor surgical management of eye diseases, injuries, and disorders, in addition to pre- and post-operative eye care for numerous surgical conditions. She spent the past few years prior to 2017 working as an independent optometrist in around the Nashville area, and brings a well-rounded optometric background to her position with EHP.
She is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Tennessee Association of Optometric Physicians, the Middle Tennessee Optometric Physicians Society, and is a candidate for fellowship of the American Academy of Optometry. Career awards and honors include Allergan Eye Care Resident Travel Grant, 2013, UABSO Jess Boyd Eskridge Clinical Excellence Award, 2013, Dean’s List with Honors, Jan 2010 – May 2013, Wells Scholarship, Aug 2009 – May 2013, Kentucky Contract Seat Recipient, Aug 2009 – May 2013, and the Dr. Lester Caplan/CIBA Vision Corporation Scholarship, 2012.
Frequently described as a “great doctor” with “wonderful chair-side manner,” Dr. Kostamaa is skilled and knowledgeable in all disorders and diseases of the retina, including macular degeneration, macular holes, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments, and epiretinal membranes. Always at the forefront of new retinal management advancements, he has participated in multiple clinical trials, all so that he can provide the best care possible to his patients.
Dr. Kostamaa received his medical degree and specialized ophthalmic training at the University of California in Irvine, where he served as Chief Resident. He also completed an additional two-year Fellowship in vitreorentinal disease. His commitment to his practice includes staying on the leading edge of advancements in medical and surgical treatments in retinal diseases and injuries, while also developing long-term relationships with his patients. He believes that teamwork is the key to delivering optimal eye care and that Eye Health Partners of Middle Tennessee, Inc. is ideally suited to provide this type of care.
Michelle Nguyen, M.D. (pronounced “Win”), is Eye Health Partners of Middle TN, Inc.’s specialist for ophthalmic plastic surgery, reconstructive eyelid surgery, orbital surgery, and neuro-ophthalmology. Dr. Nguyen has completed extensive post-residency training and research focusing on plastic and reconstructive surgery on the periorbital and facial tissues for the preservation and improvement of vision and improved facial cosmetic results. Neuro-ophthalmology is a sub-specialty dealing with visual problems related to disorders of the brain. Dr. Nguyen is fellowship trained in both oculoplastic surgery and neuro-ophthalmology.
Dr. Nguyen completed her undergraduate education and medical training at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychobiology with multiple honors including College Honors, Dean’s List, induction into the Phi Beta Kappa Honors Society, and Summa Cum Laude. She completed her internal medicine internship in Los Angeles, CA at Kaiser Permanente. She then moved to New York where she completed her ophthalmology residency at the Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine. After her residency, Dr. Nguyen completed a combined Fellowship in Oculoplastic Surgery and Neuro-Ophthalmology at UT Southwestern in Dallas, Texas under the direction of Dr. Nick Hogan, Dr. Freddie Jones, Dr. Kamel Itani and Dr. Ronald Mancini. She is a published researcher and member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Nguyen’s scope of practice includes eyelid malformations and malignancies, tear drainage problems, dry eye syndrome, orbital inflammation (such as thyroid eye disease), orbital tumors and fractures, optic nerve diseases, pseudotumor cerebri, and chronic headaches. She is experienced in cosmetic procedures including botulinum toxin (BOTOX and Xeomin) injections, fillers (i.e. Restalyne), ptosis (droopy eyelids), and other facial rejuvenation techniques.
Bina Patel, M.D.
Cornea and External Disease
Dr. Bina Patel is a fellowship-trained cornea subspecialist with additional extensive experience in cataract, external diseases, and comprehensive ophthalmology. Dr. Patel is a highly skilled surgeon who performs corneal transplants and cataract surgeries.
Dr. Patel graduated Summa Cum Laude from Virginia Commonwealth University where she had a full academic scholarship as a Provost Scholar. She then received her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine while under the full merit Samuel E. Booker Scholarship. Dr. Patel completed her residency at the University of Virginia Department of Ophthalmology. She was Chief Resident during her final year of residency. Her fellowship training in Cornea and External Disease was completed at University of Virginia under Dr. Leslie Olsakovsky.
Dr. Patel moved to Tennessee in 2014 and started working at the Veterans Affairs Tennessee Valley Healthcare System. She developed the cornea program and performed the first Descemet’s Stripping Endothelial Keratoplasty in the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System. She greatly enjoyed serving our veterans during her time at the VA. “At the VA and during my training, I developed relationships with my patients and their families and discovered this to be the most rewarding aspect of practicing ophthalmology.
