Sean Allison, M.D. provides a patient-centered approach to delivering comprehensive retina and vitreous focused medical and surgical care for the treatment of Diabetic Retinopathy, Macular Degeneration, and Retinal Detachment, among many other diseases and disorders affecting the retina and vitreous.
Dr. Allison graduated from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham (UAB) in 2003. He then completed his Ophthalmology Residency, serving as Chief Resident his final year at The University of Texas Health Sciences Center in Houston. He remained at UT-Houston to complete his vitreoretinal surgical fellowship. Dr. Allison has been practicing as a vitreoretinal surgeon since he completed his fellowship in 2008. He is a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists, a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and a Board Certified Ophthalmologist.
Dr. Allison was born and raised in Mountain Brook, Alabama. He attended The University of Alabama prior to enrolling in The University of Alabama School of Medicine where he met his wife, Ashley. Ashley is a native to the Eastern Shore. She also graduated from The University of Alabama School of Medicine and specializes in Dermatopathology. .
Tara Festa, O.D.

Dr. Tara Festa specializes in the diagnosis and management of complex eye diseases as well as the pre- and post-operative management of a variety of surgical procedures.
Dr. Festa attended the University of South Alabama where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science. She then earned her Doctorate of Optometry degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry. She graduated with academic honors and was inducted into the Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society.
Upon completion of optometry school, Dr. Festa fulfilled a residency in Ocular Disease and Low Vision at the Kansas City VA Medical Center where she trained in hospital based optometry and co-management of many eye diseases including glaucoma, retinopathy and cataracts.
She is a member of the American Optometric Association, the American Academy of Optometry and the Alabama Optometric Association.
William F. Murrah III, M.D.
Comprehensive Medical Ophthalmology
Dr. Murrah joins VisionAmerica with over 40 years of experience in medical and surgical ophthalmology. Dr. Murrah received his medical degree from the University of Tennessee, College of Medicine in Memphis, TN.
Between medical school and completing his residency, he served in the US Public Health Service, achieving the rank of Surgeon. After returning to the University of Tennessee to complete his residency in ophthalmology, he completed a Fellowship in phacoemulsification of cataracts and implantation of intraocular lenses in Oklahoma City, OK. In July of 1978, Dr. Murrah established the first full time ophthalmology practice in Baldwin County. With the help of his wife Ann, a Certified Ophthalmic Surgical Technician, he brought eye surgery to Thomas Hospital in Fairhope, AL.
Among the professional offices he has held during his career, Dr. Murrah has served as President of the Thomas Hospital Medical Staff and President of the Baldwin County Medical Society. Dr. Murrah is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a Life Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is also a member of the Medical Association of the State of Alabama and the Baldwin County Medical Society.
Paul M. Taupeka, M.D.

Dr. Paul M. Taupeka received his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine followed by an internship in Internal Medicine at the University of South Alabama Medical Center. After completing a residency in Ophthalmology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, he served a combined fellowship in Neuro-Ophthalmology, Oculoplastic Surgery and Pediatric Ophthalmology at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY.
Dr. Taupeka specializes in diagnosis and treatment of conditions that affect the optic nerve. In addition he is an experienced eyelid surgery specialist and he uses the latest medical technology to remove lesions from the eyelids and face. He is also skilled at diagnosing and treating eye diseases that affect children.
Dr. Taupeka is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Medical Association, The Medical Society of Mobile County and the Medical Association of the State of Alabama.
