Gregory M. Hoffpauir, M.D. is a board certified ophthalmologist specializing in cataract treatment and general ophthalmology, as well as the medical treatment of diabetic retinopathy and retinal holes. He has been practicing ophthalmology since 1993 and has remained on the leading edge of medical technology in his specialty area of eye health. He performs clear cornea cataract surgery utilizing the astigmatism and presbyopia correcting lenses such as the Toric and ReStor IOLs. In addition to his comprehensive experience in cataract treatments, Dr. Hoffpauir’s expertise also encompasses the management of glaucoma and retinal disease, as well as reconstructive and cosmetic eyelid procedures. He is also highly skilled in strabismus correction, having trained with the highly renowned pediatric ophthalmologist Earl Crouch, M.D.
Dr. Hoffpauir’s medical degree was awarded from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine. He then completed his ophthalmology residency as Chief Resident at the Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine. Additionally, Dr. Hoffpauir completed ophthalmic pathology training at the Earl K. Long Memorial Hospital (LSU Medical Center) in Baton Rouge, LA.
Dr. Hoffpauir’s professional affiliations include membership with the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and has earned the status of Fellow with the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He also served in the Medical Society of Louisiana before relocating to Montgomery, AL.
In addition to Dr. Hoffpauir’s educational and professional accomplishments, he served in the US Naval Reserve as a naval flight instructor and became proficient in carrier landings. He received numerous awards and was selected to pilot the F-14. A native of southern Louisiana, Dr. Hoffpauir joined Vision America of Montgomery in January 2011. Outside of his medical practice, Dr. Hoffpauir enjoys spending time with his wife and five children and pursuing his musical talent of playing guitar.

Brian Mahalak, O.D.
Center Director of Montgomery
Dr. Brian Mahalak specializes in the diagnosis and management of complex eye diseases as well as the pre- and post-operative management of a variety of surgical procedures.
After completing his undergraduate studies at Albion College in Albion, Michigan, Dr. Mahalak graduated Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in biology. While at Albion, he enjoyed studying microscopic ocular anatomy through use of electron microscopy. Dr. Mahalak then earned his Doctorate of Optometry degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry, graduating with multiple academic honors and awards for clinical excellence. In addition, he stayed active in a number of student and professional societies and was a charter member of UAB’s Beta Sigma Kappa Optometric Honor Society. While completing his clinical studies, Dr. Mahalak participated in and directed a number of research projects, ranging from biochemical studies of ocular tissues to normal and abnormal color vision deficits.
Upon graduation from optometry school, Dr. Mahalak completed a residency in Family Practice Optometry with a concentration in ocular disease as well as co-management of ophthalmic surgery and disease. He continues to stay professionally active, and is a member of the American Optometric Association and the American Academy of Optometry, and currently serves as a zone president and board member for the Alabama Optometric Association.
Dr. Mahalak is a devoted family man. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and young children and is an avid fisherman.
Darrell E. Wolfley, M.D. is an ophthalmic plastic surgeon specializing in eyelid surgery and surgical procedures of the orbit, forehead, cheeks and lacrimal drainage system.
A Cum Laude graduate of the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Science degree, Dr. Wolfley then graduated with honors from Northwest University Medical School where he was elected to membership in Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Society. After completing a straight medicine internship with the University of Washington in Seattle, Dr. Wolfley then completed ophthalmology residency at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee and Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. After completion of his tour of duty in the U.S. Army, Dr. Wolfley then did a fellowship in ophthalmic plastics and reconstructive surgery at New York Medical College in New York, NY.
Prior to joining VisionAmerica, Dr. Wolfley was Professor of Ophthalmology and Director of Ophthalmic Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery at Louisiana State University in New Orleans, Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., and Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut.
He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow in the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery. He is one of only twenty ophthalmologists in the United States certified by the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastics Surgery to train younger ophthalmologists in the field of Ophthalmic Plastics and Reconstructive surgery. He is recognized nationally and internationally as an outstanding surgeon and a gifted teacher. He has been visiting professor and guest lecturer in more than thirty different Universities and ten different countries. Dr. Wolfley performs a variety of oculoplastics procedures at numerous locations for Eye Health Partners, including in Huntsville.
