After being severely injured during a PRCA Xtreme bull riding competition in Rapid City, South Dakota, I didn't think I would be able to ride anymore. I suffered from double vision, and in order to compete at the highest level, my vision had to be perfect. It is simply too dangerous. I now faced the demoralizing possibility that I would have to give up my chosen career and dream.
After consulting different doctors, the surgeon who was highly recommended by the hospital was unwilling to take my case because of its complexity. I thought my life would be changed forever. Still, I was not prepared to give up riding. So, when this highly-respected surgeon recommended that I contact Dr. Irene Ludwig, I made one of the most blessed decisions of my life. I took his advice and scheduled a consultative appointment with her.
Dr. Ludwig operated on my eyes April 3, 2009. The procedure I needed was complex, and I knew that afterward I would have several visits with Dr. Ludwig to assess my progress. That wouldn't be easy with my schedule, but Dr. Ludwig and her staff worked to accommodate me. She even allowed me to make special visits outside her office hours. She was dedicated and very determined to do whatever it took to get my career back on-line.
I'm riding again and doing what I love. I couldn’t be saying that without Dr. Ludwig's help. Dr. Ludwig seemed to understand how important bull riding is to me from the beginning. Her support throughout the whole process along with her knowledge and surgical skill have given me a successful outcome that didn't seem possible just a few months ago.
I am so thankful to God that He guided me to Dr. Ludwig and the team at VisionAmerica (Eye Health Partners).
