Visian ICL

Eye Health Partners is pleased to offer the Visian ICL in our refractive surgery options. The Visian ICL is an Implantable Contact Lens for patients with moderate to high degrees of myopia (nearsightedness). This lens allows us to treat patients who would not otherwise be candidates for traditional refractive procedures like LASIK or PRK.

Proven Outcomes

The Visian ICL has been shown to provide greater predictability of outcome for patients with higher amounts of myopia. In fact, with the Visian ICL the predicted outcome can be achieved 90 percent of the timeⁱ. At Eye Health Partners, our patients have enjoyed the same superior outcomes with 20/20 vision or better – sometimes just one hour postoperatively! Not only do they achieve 20/20 vision, but also the quality of vision provided by the Visian ICL has been shown to be greater than other refractive procedures for high myopia.ⁱⁱ

The FDA performed a three-year follow-up study in 2004. Based on the examination of 526 eyes, the following results were reportedⁱⁱⁱ

» 99 percent of patients were satisfied/very satisfied with their results.
» 98.3 percent of patients had uncorrected visual acuity of 20/40 or better.
» Once vision was corrected, the correction was stable and did not change over the follow up period.
» Additionally, the incidence of glare, halos, double vision, night vision problems, and night driving difficulties decreased or remained unchanged from before surgery.

Proven Safety

More than 55,000 eyes have benefited from the quality of vision that the Visian ICL provides. The procedure is similar to cataract treatment which is the most commonly performed surgical eye procedure. During the procedure, a small incision is made through the cornea, the clear part of the eye. Then the Visian ICL is gently injected into the eye through a tiny tube. The lens is placed behind the iris so it does not change the appearance of the eyes. Unlike in cataract treatment, the eye’s natural lens is not removed. The painless procedure is performed at an outpatient surgery center, and takes only a matter of minutes.
